Hydraulic Cylinder Repair in Eunice, Louisiana
A leaking or scored hydraulic cylinder stops the machine it sits on, and every hour it stays down costs more than the repair. Southern Industrial Hydraulics has rebuilt cylinders in Eunice since 2018, for farm equipment, construction machinery and industrial plants across South Louisiana. Bring it to the shop at 143 Eastpark Drive and we will tell you what it needs, what it costs and how long it takes before any work starts.
What we repair on a hydraulic cylinder
We work on the whole cylinder, not just the seals. That includes:
- Gland replacement and repair
- Piston replacement and repair
- Cylinder rod replacement, straightening and repair
- Chrome plating on rods and bores
- Cylinder tube replacement and honing
- Full teardown, reseal and reassembly to manufacturer specification
How much does it cost to repair a hydraulic cylinder?
It depends on what is wrong inside it, which is why we quote after we open it, not before. A reseal on a cylinder with a sound rod and tube is the least expensive outcome. A scored rod that needs chrome plating, or a tube that needs honing or replacing, costs more. You get the time and the cost in writing before we start, and if a rebuild is not worth it against a replacement we will tell you that instead.
Is my cylinder worth rebuilding or should I replace it?
Most cylinders are worth rebuilding. A rebuild usually costs well under a new unit and returns the cylinder to manufacturer specification, and on older or discontinued equipment a rebuild is often the only option that keeps the machine working. We will give you a straight answer on yours after we look at it. That assessment is free.
Signs your hydraulic cylinder needs repair
- Fluid weeping or streaming from the gland or rod
- The rod drifts down under load or will not hold position
- Visible scoring, pitting or flaking chrome on the rod
- The rod is bent, or the cylinder binds partway through its stroke
- Slow or uneven movement compared to the other cylinders on the machine
Any one of these means the cylinder is losing pressure past a seal or across a damaged surface. Running it that way scores the tube and turns a reseal into a rebuild.
